JAMES MARTY BROWN

From the firehouse to the community, Marty Brown has always answered the call.

James M. “Marty” Brown has called Whitfield County home since 1984, when his family moved to northwest Georgia in search of better opportunities. A graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School, Marty learned early the value of hard work—holding full‑time jobs while attending night classes at Chattanooga State.

In 1991, at just 19 years old, Marty began his lifelong commitment to serving his community by joining the Whitfield County Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. That same year, he married his high‑school sweetheart, and together they bought their first home at age 20. Marty later became an Emergency Medical Technician and then a Paramedic, serving the people of northwest Georgia for more than 34 years as a firefighter‑paramedic.

Alongside his public service, Marty built a strong private‑sector résumé. He worked his way up from delivery driver to warehouse manager, then spent a decade as a purchasing agent and inventory controller at Freightliner of Chattanooga. While working full‑time, he earned his A.A.S. in Marketing from Dalton State, graduating Magna Cum Laude. In 2020, he purchased and relocated Boats and Motors of Dalton, becoming a local small‑business owner.

Marty is also known in the outdoor community as a competitive angler, winning the 2010 FLW EverStart event at Lake Okeechobee and placing 11th in the 2012 Bassmaster Open. When an injury temporarily sidelined him from fishing, he turned to long‑distance hiking—completing major trails, including the Appalachian Trail (section hike), the 486‑mile Colorado Trail, and the John Muir Trail.

In 2024, Marty faced his toughest challenge yet: a stage‑4 rectal cancer diagnosis that had spread to his lung. Through months of chemotherapy, radiation, and three surgeries—including the removal of half his right lung—he fought with the same determination he’s shown throughout his life. Today, Marty is cancer‑free and at full strength.

With decades of frontline service, real‑world business experience, and a lifetime rooted in the values of northwest Georgia, Marty Brown believes he is ready to continue serving his community—this time in Congress.
